About The Plant Shop Guide

The Plant Shop Guide is a free directory of the independent plant retailers in the United States — houseplant boutiques, neighbourhood nurseries, family garden centers and the greenhouses that have been on the same corner for sixty years.

It exists because searching for a plant shop is genuinely annoying. The results are a mix of big-box garden departments, a review site that wants you to log in, and a magazine listicle from 2019 where half the shops have closed. None of it tells you the simple thing you wanted: which independent shops are near me, and what do they actually sell?

What is in here

3,853 shops across 2,397 cities and 50 states + DC. Every listing carries a location; 2,105 have a full street address, 1,048 a phone number, 1,117 a website and 746 opening hours.

What is deliberately not in here

Big-box garden departments are filtered out. So are landscape supply yards and irrigation contractors — useful businesses, but not somewhere you browse for a plant. There are no fake reviews, no star ratings we invented, and no "sponsored" listing dressed up as an editorial pick.

Honesty about coverage

Coverage is uneven, and pretending otherwise would waste your time. The underlying data is community-mapped, which means suburban nurseries are recorded thoroughly and small urban houseplant shops much less so. In a dense city we may be missing half the shops that exist. We would rather say that plainly than let you assume a thin city page is the whole picture. The data page explains exactly where everything comes from, and the submit form is how it gets better.
